6 Rules to Success in Direct Sales

Posted on

I get asked a few questions over and over. “How do you do it” is the biggest and most asked question I get. I am very successful at what I do. But I didn’t start out that way. I worked my tail off to get what I have today. And what’s the secret to my continued success? I continue to WORK. Every day. All day. My passion for my business and my mission is unmatched. I will succeed. Not at one thing, but every day, in whatever I am working on.

I have watched this video quite a few times this week and it really just hit me WHY. Because this is it. This is all the answers you need. Watch this video and then see what I have to say about it below:

6 Rules to Success:

1. Trust Yourself:

Who do you want to be? Not WHAT…but WHO. This is YOUR business. Stop trying to be like everyone else. I am successful because I work hard every single day of my life to be DIFFERENT. To think different, to act different, to say different things…this is what has made me successful. There’s a 100,000 different Thirty-One consultants. They choose me because I stand out. Because I make their experience like none they will ever have in direct sales.

The marketing I do…some people don’t like the way I work. But my customers sure do. And I think my sales and my success prove that. So dare to be true to yourself. If you have a crazy thought, try it. The world needs a little more crazy!

I was so scared to death to quit my job and do Thirty-One full time. But I knew that’s where my heart was. And boy am I glad I did. I walked away from a career. From a Master’s Degree program I worked so hard to get into. But I followed my heart. And trusted my gut.

2. Break the Rules:

Don’t break the law, but break the rules. Picasso said, “learn the rules so well, that you learn how to break them like a pro”. That doesn’t mean break your policy and procedures. But that means to walk that line. When you know the rules inside and out, your business will prosper for working it honestly and with integrity. When I have a crazy idea, I call CAGS to see how I can make it work. They’re not there to police people, they’re there to help you be a better consultant. All the crazy things I do, they work. Society is tired of the SAME. Break the “normal” barrier and start following your heart and mind to do things DIFFERENT. Let YOU shine through in your business.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Fail:

Oh my goodness, if I had let my fears hold me back, can you imagine what I would be missing out on? I would never have gone to college as a single mother with a GED. I would never have graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree. I would never have been able to travel the world for FREE. I would never be back with my high school sweetheart with 2 beautiful little boys to add to our family. I would never be the CEO of my own company. I would never have spoken in front of 15,000 people at Nationwide Arena. And I would never be able to teach my children that it’s ok to be different. To DREAM. And to go GET your dreams. I fail everyday. It’s a game now. I know I will fail sometimes, I just like to see how many times I WON’T. Embrace that fear, conquer that fear, and WELCOME that fear. Because you can’t get somewhere great by staying where you are. There isn’t a single thing in this world that is out of your limits. You just have to decide how bad you want it.

4. Don’t Listen to the Naysayers:

Do you know how many people have told me “you can’t do that”, “you’ll never amount to anything”. Too many to count. And you know what’s funny? THEY STILL DO! Anyone who belittles another human being is simply insecure themselves. And they don’t like to see other people succeed. I’m really easy to get along with. If you don’t like me…I guarantee it’s because you don’t like my success. Or my morals. Or my values. Or the fact that I don’t believe in competition. And that’s ok with me, because you’re not my kind of people anyway. Surround yourself with people who lift you UP. No one worth having in your life, would tell you that you CAN’T do something. I’m telling you right now, you can do anything you want to. You can BE anyone you want to be. You can ACHIEVE anything you set your mind to. And you can OVERCOME anything you’ve been through. Don’t listen to anyone but your heart. You’re better than that. You can’t let anyone control how you think or feel. Bless and release. Get rid of any negativity in your life and you will be so much better off!

5. Work Your Butt Off:

Here’s the secret…THERE IS NO SECRET! I work my butt off every day.  I do things that other people are not willing to do. He says, “if you want to win, there’s no way around hard work”. AMEN. I know what I want and I’m not stopping until I get it. And when I get it, I’ll figure out what I want next. And if I fail, I’ll figure out what I need to do to get a step closer each time until I reach it. HARD WORK. Every Day. Someone out there wants the same thing you do. All that matters is how hard you’re willing to work to get it.  Show up. That’s all you’ve gotta do. Show up and get to work everyday. Work harder, work smarter, work longer. And you’re going to get there.

6. Give Something Back:

One of the biggest things I do in my business, is give back. I give back to my community of Thirty-One consultants. Why? Because I know what one file or one idea can do for a person’s business. Because I was given a gift, and it is God’s gift. Not mine. And the Bible simply says to give back:

2 Corinthians 9:11

You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

Luke 3:11

And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”

Because sharing with other consultants has never done harm to my business. It has only blessed me ten fold and allowed me so many more opportunities to do what this company was founded on. To build women up. To help other women. To celebrate other women. To encourage other women. And to reward other women. I share because I can. And I share because I know it helps.

I also share in my community. Why? Again, because I can. Because I get up and pay my bills, and breathe life, and the people around me deserve to know I am thankful. And people need to know there are still good people in this world. One person really can make a difference. Most people want to give back, they just don’t know HOW. Be that vessel for others. Organize something once a month. Don’t know how? Google! Contact local shelters, find what they need. Organize a drive at your church or school. There’s so many things you can do. You are ABLE. And for that you are obligated.

I hope I’m not just rambling and someone actually gets something from this:) Speaking from the heart today! I may be a hillbilly and a little rough around the edges…but I know my place in this world. And I work hard to be a good mother, a good friend, a good family member, a good community member, and a good businesswoman. Go out and get what you want. Get up. And go GET IT. Hard work, determination, and perseverance, will take you anywhere you want to go!

Love that you are speaking from the heart. These words will reach far beyond just the 31G community.
