You have to ENGAGE yourself! See what your customers answers are and interact. Laugh with them. Be a human being instead of trying to sell to them constantly! If you read between the lines, you can really get to know your customers with some of these posts. And then your customers, well they actually get to know each other too. They will start finding people in your group with similar interests, maybe they were from the same hometown, maybe they owned the same “first car”. Whatever it is, it’s about creating an environment and a community where people actually like to come and interact and smile once a in awhile.

So try scheduling these posts a couple times a week and see what happens!

Facebook Etiquette for Direct Sales Consultants

There’s a few things that really razz me on Facebook.

And I’m generally the most easy-going person you’ll meet. I’m actually kind of shy unless I know you. And I’m intimidated by large crowds…but that’s a whole other therapy session. But when someone does one of these “do NOT do’s” to me…the redhead hillbilly comes out. Like Hulk. It’s ugly.

What I want to talk to you about today, is Facebook Etiquette (and all social media for that matter)! WHY? Because I want you to NOT do it! So here are some Do’s and Don’ts that you should really consider while conducting business on Facebook:

Your Customer Business Page:

I have a Direct Sales business. I share SO MUCH freely with the world for you to use. But my business page for my Direct Sales business is OFF LIMITS. There is NO EXCUSE for any “like consultant” to be on that page. Other than to lurk and steal stuff.

Because that’s what you’re doing. By taking things off someone’s business page without their consent, you are STEALING. What they post…their words and their graphics are THEIR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. You do not have the right to go on their page and take stuff.

DO NOT:

1. Do not post on someone’s business page, can I steal this? You just turned a genuine post into an icky feeling sales post. STOP IT!

2. Do not take someone graphics off their customer business page. It’s not yours. You didn’t spend an hour creating it, DON’T TAKE IT.

3. Do not take someone’s post and copy and paste it and use it on your page WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. If you are doing this, you’re probably not doing very well in your business. Because you are not being AUTHENTIC, you are essentially stealing, and your customers can probably smell you a mile away!

4. Do not join someone’s events on their customer business page and steal all their posts or scripts. IT IS THEFT! YOU…take the time away from your family, your business, your work and DO IT YOURSELF!

Your personal Facebook timeline:

This is a page for your family and friends. Period. 

DO NOT:

1. Post something on someone’s timeline that is a business question:

Why?: because your personal timeline is not for business. It is for you to make connections with your family, your customers, and your friends. You have to have a personal boundary in this world. You can private message someone a question about something you saw on their timeline, but do not talk business on someone’s timeline.

2. Do not send someone a private message and then post on their timeline “Hey, I sent you a message, you must have missed it”.

WHY?: Because I can assure you they saw it, but didn’t have time to answer it…and it will TICK THEM OFF. Smart people…turn off Facebook notifications when they’re focused and working on something. So they are not distracted. I actually have a scheduled time to go through and answer messages that are business related. You should too:)

My personal messaging rules:

***If you are not on my team, you are not a friend, a family member, or a customer, your question will be answered when all of MY work is done. That could be 20 minutes, or that could be 2 weeks. I cannot interrupt my own work, to help someone else’s work. That’s why I schedule the time accordingly. This is my time, then when I’m done (and if I have time) it is their time.

3. Do not comment on a post that is on someone’s personal timeline and say “I’m stealing this”, “where did you buy those from”, “I tried that and it didn’t work”, “can i borrow this?”, or ANY OTHER business question. 

WHY?: Because we realize YOU see them as a person to learn from and someone to get good ideas from, but you are on their PERSONAL PAGE. You are taking PERSONAL posts to their friends/family/customers and staining it with business. It’s like you just put Facebook PORN on their page! That’s how much it makes me cringe.

 

It is extremely unprofessional. Now, feel free to privately message people…but posting business on their page is not acceptable business etiquette.

What you CAN you do on someone’s personal Facebook timeline:

1. Post a thank you for helping you with something. 

WHY? Because that’s personal.

2. Post a congratulations on something they have accomplished.

WHY? Again, that is a personal thing, and that’s wonderful.

3. Celebrate a success you had with someone.

WHY? because that shows others the bond that we have and the friendships we make. And again, it is personal.

As Direct Sales consultants, it’s so important to learn from each other. But make sure those professional relationships don’t get ruined because you weren’t minding your Facebook manners 😉

We all need to respect each other’s personal boundaries. I share because I care about every single person out there. But sometimes I get burned for it. So I just wanted to throw that out there. There’s a right way and a wrong way. Make sure you’re doing things the RIGHT way!

And for the record, this goes for ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS!

A huge mistake I see from so many fellow direct sellers is that they have their timeline profile linked as “I work at this company” and they link the company they sell for. Let me tell you how this is leading people away from you and how to FIX IT!

Facebook has over 1.91 billion people on it. Make sure you’re leading them to the right place!

Thirty-One Facebook Opportunity Event with Spring 2016 Kit!

Here’s a script you can use to host your own opportunity event on Facebook. You can do this as a team or for yourself.

This script was a collaboration between myself, Bridgett Edwards, and Tiffany Wellinghoff.

It’s a great way to show all the benefits and frequently asked questions about joining Thirty-One with the new Spring and Summer 2016Enrollment Kit!

I like to create a private group for these because people can refer back to them.

I posted things before the event also. We hold these once a month for our team to be able to invite their potential recruits. Thanks to Tiffany Wellinghoff who gave me the push to get back into doing them. And they’ve been going GREAT!

You’ll want to post once a day until the event. And then that day…post once in the morning, maybe once around 5pm, one hour before the event, and then 20 minutes before the event.

Hi! My name is Melissa Fietsam, I will be co-hosting tonight’s event along with other wonderful directors and consultants on our amazing team. Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions answered for you.

1. I have a very busy life and I’m not sure if I can be gone at night. What are the shopping event options?
You can do JUST catalog parties and online parties if that is what fits your schedule. A catalog party is when you give someone a hostess packet and they just collect orders from their friends and family and turn them in to you.

2. Do consultants have a monthly/quarterly quota to stay active?
To stay active with Thirty-One, consultants only need to submit $200 in sales every rolling three months. A qualifying party for Thirty-One is only $200! Very easy to stay active!

3. Does the company supply consultants with a website? If so, what is the cost?
The cost is $12.95 a month. You will receive the website and newsletter FREE during your first three months you join Thirty-0ne. And you can cancel that at any time.

4. How do I submit orders?
You submit orders via your personal website in what we call our “Back Office”. Here you will place party orders, create online orders, and do business supply orders

5. Can my customers order from my website?
Yes! Your customers can go directly to your website and place an order or re-order without hosting a shopping event.

6. What is my initial cost to become a consultant?
It only takes $99 to secure your consultant display kit! It comes with over $400 in product you get to use for yourself and your parties

7. What will I get with my kit and when can I expect to receive it?
You will get all the products on the back of the new catalog along with 25 catalogs, invitations, and 50 order forms in addition to other start-up paperwork. You will receive your kit in 3-5 days.

9. What can I do to prepare while waiting for my kit?

And you’ll want to spread the word about your new business. Tell all your family and friends and start booking those parties!!! Your best bet is to have what I call a “launch party” at your house. Invite everyone you know and do your own party when your kit arrives. That way you can enter your first party, you’ll make all the commission, and you’ll earn all the free and half-price items as the hostess-so you can add to your kit for FREE!
10. How are Consultants paid at Thirty-One?
We get paid by direct deposit on the 10th and 25th of each month. You can also choose to have a paper check sent to you if you don’t want direct deposit.

11. Does the company offer consultant incentives?
Yes, Thirty-One offers us challenges during various months to receive something FREE or have the opportunity to qualify for various things.

12. How do I collect money from customers?
As a consultant, you can accept cash, checks, or credit cards for the full amount owed including shipping and tax. Consultants are not charged for this service. Thirty One accepts all major credit cards.

13. Do I have to have a separate business checking account to become a Thirty-One consultant?
No. Although, by having a separate checking account for your Thirty-One business it may make it easier to track business income and expenses.

14. Is there a penalty or fee if I decide to get out of the business?
No. Just contact home office and let them know of your decision. There is never a penalty for not selling…you have nothing to lose by trying!!!

15. Are there any support groups or training for Thirty-One consultants?
Yes! Yes! Yes! We have a Consultant Website calledwww.thirtyonetoday.com and it is updated daily with the latest information that you will need to run your business. You can get all the info on company announcements, consultant information, and online trainings. We also have a team page full of daily tips and marketing tricks for your business!

Don’t Be So Boring in 2016!

My customer page used to simply EXIST. I rarely post, didn’t have that many customers in there, it just kind of sat there. And when I did post…a whole lot of these followed…

Then I started being CONSISTENT. It all started with a goal I made in December of 2014. My goal was to make my customer Facebook page WORK. Not only to make it work, but to make it FUN!

So here is what I did:

1. I made a goal to increase the # of people in my group.

And I doubled my group this year. And I don’t just add people. NEVER just add people. You want THEM to request to be added.

A) I used things like the cutest pet contest and the cutest baby contest.

B) I also did things like this where people won prizes for adding their friends:

C) I also posted my LINK to my customer page in every single FB party I did the whole year.

D) I also just recently started posting the link to my group in my monthly customer email.

So those are just some fun ways to increase your #’s in your customer group.

2. I also wanted to increase the interaction!

I started being consistent with giveaways and posting. Why would my customers be active if I wasn’t?! So I started posting at least once a day, if not more. And what do ya know? I have a lot more interaction.

I’ve gotten bookings, recruits, and sales. It was AMAZING to watch what unfolded in my Facebook customer group over this last year. And all I had to do was SHOW UP:)

3. I wanted to be USEFUL!

My friend Linda Lollo stressed the importance to me last year… about making your page USEFUL. Make it INTERESTING. Make them WANT to read your posts. Make it THE place to be.

My customers don’t just get slammed with posts about purses. I’m not ONLY about purses; and neither are my customers. So why not be a little more versatile. Kind of like being MYSELF!

So I started posting:

~useful tips on everything from holidays to crafts to kid tips…you name it, I posted it!

They got to know ME this year. And it worked. Here’s an example of something I posted today:

So there’s a few things I did. I really hope this helps you to think about a new direction for your customer group. I’ve gained so many friends, new hostesses, and sales from my Facebook Customer Page. It’s so worth it if you put the time into it and you simply be YOU. Don’t SELL to them. Just be useful and show them WHY they need your product. Show them PICTURES of product in use. Not just stock photos. That’s B-O-R-I-N-G !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spice it up and have some fun in 2016!

Thirty-One January Facebook Party Script

**below you will find my entire 7 day Facebook script for January 2016 with all images.

I want to make it FUN for my hostesses and guests!!

So this is my 7 day Facebook party I have created:

1. 3 posts a day

2. I post using http://www.cinchshare.com, so I can pre-post all of those

3. I post at 9am, 2pm, and 7pm each day

4. I close the event 2 days before their actual party closes. WHY? Because I want to give them time to round up orders for those last 2 days, and it just helps me plan exact dates to start and stop those events.

I do a Facebook event the same way for every party. Whether they are having a home show, a catalog show, a Fundraiser, or a Facebook Party. They all get the same 7 day event. This is my way to get in front of as many people as I possibly can!

I focused on the product lines I wanted to showcase, booking seeds, recruiting seeds, and lead generation (getting follow up information).

I wrote down a list of absolutely everything I wanted to post in a FB event. And this is the outline I ended up with:

PRE-POSTS (I load these before I invite my host and before she invites all her friends)

1. Introduction to ME (always include a picture)

2. Bundle pictures to show what they can get and let them browse products

**this particular holiday outline is not as structured as the one below because it is for the holidays and focusing on gifts!

**some of these pictures are my own, and some are pulled from other fabulous ladies who have shared their creative genius with the rest of us! Thank you if that is YOU.

DAY ONE:

1. Introduction to FB party: what to expect from ME

3.  Holiday Post: pictures to show how they could order 31 for events they already have going on (for instance, right now I am posting Valentine’s Day gift ideas, wedding gift ideas, and graduation gift ideas)

I’m a baseball and basketball mom. So something that stands out to me, with Thirty-One, is their spirit line. We make sports fun on the sidelines and FUNctional for everyday use! I spend 3/4 my year sitting on bleachers, so I love looking cool while I’m cheering my babies on. Don’t tell my son I called him a baby. He’s 6 foot 3. LOL!

Complete Thirty-One Facebook Party Script- Fall 2015

So I tried something new with my Thirty-One Facebook parties. I really wanted to focus on SIMPLE~EASY~FUN. But I also was struggling with 2 weeks events. That’s a lot of work on my part. So, when Thirty-One announced the 12 Weeks of Summer Incentive, it got me thinking about 7 day parties. And it just kind of snowballed from there. I needed easy and structured. So I encourage you to write an outline like I have, figure out what YOU want to share with your customers, and tailor it according to your own needs and customers. And remember, each party is different. Always ask your hostess what kind of guests she has: nurses/ teachers? You’ll want to post things that tailor to THEM.

**below you will find my entire 7 day script with all images.

I want to make it FUN for my hostesses and guests!!

So this is my 7 day Facebook party I have created:

1. 3 posts a day

2. I post using http://www.cinchshare.com, so I can pre-post all of those

3. I post at 9am, 2pm, and 7pm each day

4. I close the event 2 days before their actual party closes. WHY? Because I want to give them time to round up orders for those last 2 days, and it just helps me plan exact dates to start and stop those events.

I do a Facebook event the same way for every party. Whether they are having a home show, a catalog show, a Fundraiser, or a Facebook Party. They all get the same 7 day event. This is my way to get in front of as many people as I possibly can!

I focused on the product lines I wanted to showcase, booking seeds, recruiting seeds, and lead generation (getting follow up information).

I wrote down a list of absolutely everything I wanted to post in a FB event. And this is the outline I ended up with:

PRE-POSTS (I load these before I invite my host and before she invites all her friends)

1. Introduction to ME (always include a picture)

2. Bundle pictures to show what they can get and let them browse products

 

DAY ONE:

Anyone who owns a business knows that social media is playing a HUGE role in our business these days. Whether you’re marketing, sharing invitations, communicating with customers, rolling out Facebook events, or running contests…if you’re not using social media, you’re missing some customers!

I am just going to walk through Facebook events at the moment. Working in Direct Sales, I host at least 10 Facebook events a month for my hostesses. Those FB events last 7 days, and I post 3 times a day. Can you imagine how crazy I would be trying to remember all those posts? Maybe that’s YOU right now?

Cinchshare has made my life SO much easier. If you have never heard of it, let me give you the low down:

This is a #SocialMedia scheduling site that allows you to schedule posts for Facebook, IN ADVANCE (they also do a lot of other things that I have not explored yet). So you can schedule a week’s worth of posts on YOUR time. Sounds pretty amazing, right? IT IS!

I use Cinchshare to:

~post monthly reminders to my team

~when I’m up working late, I can post things for my closed customer page, and schedule them to post in the morning-when normal people are up 😉

~I can schedule ALL posts to any events I have going on. So #1-I don’t forget to post them. #2-I’m never in a hurry. I can take my time and do it RIGHT. Consistency is the name of the social media game.

~I can post things to go on my main FB timeline. Maybe I have an hour to sit down and post a bunch of great quotes I found. But I don’t want to post twenty at one time. So I can schedule those to go out daily with Cinchshare.

It’s really a no brainer for anyone who needs to organize their time and their business. I’m a busy mom of five. I HAVE to do things on my time (if my kids let me.lol).

Since using this site, I have not had a single problem. Not even one. Here is the closest thing to a “problem” that I had.

When I first logged on, I couldn’t figure out how to get my Facebook Events to show up on Cinchshare. And then…wait for it…I looked to the right side of the screen and there was this 30 second video that showed you how. And BAM! That was it. I fell in love, we’re quite close now, we talk everyday…me and my Cinchshare account. I love her…but I did feel the need to share her with you. So there you go 😉 Go check it out. The very first time you use it, you will ask yourself how you ever lived without it!

And just so you don’t have to go and search for that helpful little video (that was right in my face)…here it is so you can take a peek:

And if Impeccable customer service is something you’re really picky about…you’ll find yourself at home here too. Any time I have had a question, I message them on the little HELP me I’m drowning button…and they like…REALLY answer you. And REALLY help you. It’s quite amazing if I might say so myself!

Thirty-One Facebook Party Script

So I’m trying something new with my Thirty-One Facebook parties. I really wanted to focus on SIMPLE~EASY~FUN. But I also was struggling with 2 weeks events. That’s a lot of work on my part. So, when Thirty-One announced the 12 Weeks of Summer Incentive, it got me thinking about 7 day parties. And it just kind of snowballed from there. I need easy and structured. So I encourage you to write an outline like have, figure out what YOU want to share with your customers, and tailor it according to your own needs and customers. And remember, each party is different. Always ask your hostess what kind of guests she has: nurses/ teachers? You’ll want to post things that tailor to THEM.

I want to make it FUN for my hostesses and guests!!

So this is my 7 day Facebook party I have created:

1. 3 posts a day

2. I post using http://www.cinchshare.com, so I can pre-post all of those

3. I post at 9am, 2pm, and 7pm each day

4. I close the event 2 days before their actual party closes. WHY? Because I want to give them time to round up orders for those last 2 days, and it just helps me plan exact dates to start and stop those events.

I do a Facebook event the same way for every party. Whether they are having a home show, a catalog show, a Fundraiser, or a Facebook Party. They all get the same 7 day event. This is my way to get in front of as many people as I possibly can!

I focused on the product lines I wanted to showcase, booking seeds, recruiting seeds, and lead generation (getting follow up information).

I wrote down a list of absolutely everything I wanted to post in a FB event. And this is the outline I ended up with:

PRE-POSTS (I load these before I invite my host and before she invites all her friends)

1. Introduction to ME (always include a picture)

2. Bundle pictures to show what they can get and let them browse products

 

DAY ONE:

1. Introduction to FB party: what to expect from ME

2. Customer Special

3.  Holiday Post: pictures to show how they could order 31 for events they already have going on (for instance, right now I posted Father’s day gift ideas, wedding gift ideas, and graduation gift ideas)

DAY TWO:

1. Roll Call

2. Utility Totes

3. Sports and Spirit line

DAY THREE:

1. Promising Picks Introduction

2. Promising Picks: pillows and canvases

3. Promising Picks: accessories

 

DAY FOUR:

1. Recruiting

2. Wallets

3. Wristlet straps

 

DAY FIVE:

1. Booking

2. Home Organization

3. Home Organization

 

DAY SIX:

1. Birthday Survey

2. Jewell Purses

3. Thirty-One Purses

 

DAY SEVEN:

Facebook Etiquette for Direct Sales Consultants

There’s a few things that really razz me on Facebook. And I’m generally the most easy-going person you’ll meet. I’m actually kind of shy unless I know you. And I’m intimidated by large crowds…but that’s a whole other therapy session. But when someone does one of these “do NOT do’s” to me…the redhead hillbilly comes out. Like Hulk. It’s ugly.

What I want to talk to you about today, is what really razzes me! WHY? Because I want you to NOT do it! So here are some Do’s and Don’ts that you should really consider while posting to Facebook:

My personal Facebook timeline: What you can NOT do:

This is a page for my family and friends. Period. I am friends with 3,000 people I do not know. Because they’re consultants, they like my ideas, and I freely share. Anything you see on my page, you don’t even have to ask. It’s yours for the taking. 

BUT…and this is a BIG BUTT…

DO NOT:

1. Post something on my timeline that is a business question:

Why?: because my personal timeline is not for business. It is for me to make connections with my family, my customers, and my friends. I have to have a personal boundary in this world. I don’t mind you seeing my page and then privately messaging me a question, but do NOT post a question on my timeline about business.

2. Do not send me a private message and then post on my timeline “Hey, I sent you a message, you must have missed it”.

WHY?: Because I can assure you I saw it, but I didn’t have time to answer it, and I will BLOCK you. I freely answer questions from HUNDREDS of consultants. And love to, as a matter of fact! But I do have strict rules on my daily schedule, which is why I am successful.

My rules:

***If you are not on my team, you are not a friend, a family member, or a customer, your question will be answered when all of MY work is done. That could be 20 minutes, or that could be 2 weeks.

But I have to, again, have boundaries for my own personal life. My family comes first. I have 5 children who demand A LOT of time. I have 3 teenagers and a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old. I have a babysitter from 9am-1pm. That’s all I get to work. And I cannot stop what I’m doing for myself, my hostesses, my family, or my team, to answer questions from someone I don’t even know. It is not a smart business decision or even a smart personal decision. So please understand that I really do care, but I am not Superwoman. I can only do so much work in 4 hours.

3. Do not comment on a post that is on my personal timeline and say “I’m stealing this”, “where did you buy those from”, “I tried that and it didn’t work”, “can i borrow this?”, or ANY OTHER business question. 

WHY?: Because I realize YOU see me as a person to learn from, a leader in Thirty-One, and someone to get good ideas from. But you’re on my PERSONAL page. You are taking PERSONAL posts to my friends/family/customers and staining it with business. It’s like you just put Facebook PORN on my page! That’s how much it makes me cringe. LOL! This is my best mom face saying…”Don’t. You. Do. It.”

It is extremely unprofessional. Now, feel free to privately message me…but please do not comment business on my personal page.

I love to teach. I love to help. But I find that people need some training on how to appropriately LEARN too.

What you CAN do on someone’s personal Facebook timeline:

1. Post a thank you for helping you with something. 

WHY? Because that’s personal.

2. Post a congratulations on something they have accomplished.

WHY? Again, that is a personal thing, and that’s wonderful.

3. Celebrate a success you had with someone.

WHY? because that shows others the bond that we have and the friendships we make. And again, it is personal.

As Direct Sales consultants, it’s so important to learn from each other. But make sure those professional relationships don’t get ruined because you weren’t minding your Facebook manners 😉

Thanks for letting me rant and for respecting my personal boundaries. I share because I care about every single person out there. But sometimes I get burned for it. So I just wanted to throw that out there. There’s a right way, and a wrong way. Make sure you’re doing things the RIGHT way!
