Facebook Etiquette for Direct Sales Consultants

Posted on Updated on

There’s a few things that really razz me on Facebook.

And I’m generally the most easy-going person you’ll meet. I’m actually kind of shy unless I know you. And I’m intimidated by large crowds…but that’s a whole other therapy session. But when someone does one of these “do NOT do’s” to me…the redhead hillbilly comes out. Like Hulk. It’s ugly.

Facebook

What I want to talk to you about today, is Facebook Etiquette (and all social media for that matter)! WHY? Because I want you to NOT do it! So here are some Do’s and Don’ts that you should really consider while conducting business on Facebook:

Your Customer Business Page:

I have a Direct Sales business. I share SO MUCH freely with the world for you to use. But my business page for my Direct Sales business is OFF LIMITS. There is NO EXCUSE for any “like consultant” to be on that page. Other than to lurk and steal stuff.

Because that’s what you’re doing. By taking things off someone’s business page without their consent, you are STEALING. What they post…their words and their graphics are THEIR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. You do not have the right to go on their page and take stuff.

DO NOT:

1. Do not post on someone’s business page, can I steal this? You just turned a genuine post into an icky feeling sales post. STOP IT!

2. Do not take someone graphics off their customer business page. It’s not yours. You didn’t spend an hour creating it, DON’T TAKE IT.

3. Do not take someone’s post and copy and paste it and use it on your page WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. If you are doing this, you’re probably not doing very well in your business. Because you are not being AUTHENTIC, you are essentially stealing, and your customers can probably smell you a mile away!

4. Do not join someone’s events on their customer business page and steal all their posts or scripts. IT IS THEFT! YOU…take the time away from your family, your business, your work and DO IT YOURSELF!

Your personal Facebook timeline:

This is a page for your family and friends. Period.

DO NOT:

1. Post something on someone’s timeline that is a business question:

Why?: because your personal timeline is not for business. It is for you to make connections with your family, your customers, and your friends. You have to have a personal boundary in this world. You can private message someone a question about something you saw on their timeline, but do not talk business on someone’s timeline.

2. Do not send someone a private message and then post on their timeline “Hey, I sent you a message, you must have missed it”.

WHY?: Because I can assure you they saw it, but didn’t have time to answer it…and it will TICK THEM OFF. Smart people…turn off Facebook notifications when they’re focused and working on something. So they are not distracted. I actually have a scheduled time to go through and answer messages that are business related. You should too:)

My personal messaging rules:

***If you are not on my team, you are not a friend, a family member, or a customer, your question will be answered when all of MY work is done. That could be 20 minutes, or that could be 2 weeks. I cannot interrupt my own work, to help someone else’s work. That’s why I schedule the time accordingly. This is my time, then when I’m done (and if I have time) it is their time.

3. Do not comment on a post that is on someone’s personal timeline and say “I’m stealing this”, “where did you buy those from”, “I tried that and it didn’t work”, “can i borrow this?”, or ANY OTHER business question.

WHY?: Because we realize YOU see them as a person to learn from and someone to get good ideas from, but you are on their PERSONAL PAGE. You are taking PERSONAL posts to their friends/family/customers and staining it with business. It’s like you just put Facebook PORN on their page! That’s how much it makes me cringe.

It is extremely unprofessional. Now, feel free to privately message people…but posting business on their page is not acceptable business etiquette.

What you CAN you do on someone’s personal Facebook timeline:

1. Post a thank you for helping you with something.

WHY? Because that’s personal.

2. Post a congratulations on something they have accomplished.

WHY? Again, that is a personal thing, and that’s wonderful.

3. Celebrate a success you had with someone.

WHY? because that shows others the bond that we have and the friendships we make. And again, it is personal.

As Direct Sales consultants, it’s so important to learn from each other. But make sure those professional relationships don’t get ruined because you weren’t minding your Facebook manners 😉

We all need to respect each other’s personal boundaries. I share because I care about every single person out there. But sometimes I get burned for it. So I just wanted to throw that out there. There’s a right way and a wrong way. Make sure you’re doing things the RIGHT way!

And for the record, this goes for ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS!

If you would like more tips on how to run your business the RIGHT WAY,

Thirty-One Booking Challenge

Video Posted on

So here’s a fun new way to get some NEW customers and hostesses from the contacts you already HAVE!

Check out this video and see how the book Go Pro by Eric Worre, taught this old dog some new tricks:

Getting new customers and hostesses is a HUGE focus in my business right now. So when this idea hit me, I ran with it.

How many times do we hammer the same contacts over and over again? It’s really time to EXPAND. It’s time to set a goal in your business to reach a certain # of new contacts each month.

My personal goal is 50 new quality contacts each month for the remainder of the year.

This challenge is about utilizing channels you already know (like they’d smack you in the face they’re close)…and digging deep to build relationships that are already there. You simply haven’t thought of them as business contacts yet.

If you have not read the book, Go Pro, by Eric Worre-stop everything you’re doing and download the audio or order the book. Your business will thank you. That is where this idea came from and I HIGHLY recommend that book to each and every one of you!

Here is your booking challenge form if you would like to go along with our team: http://1drv.ms/1Oid23p

Booking Tip for Your Thirty-One Business

Posted on

Now this is just cool! Here’s my new booking tool!

1

I took my “Enter my Drawing” slips, which I use for EVERYTHING and I made them into sticky note size! So i ordered these from vistaprint.

And what do I do with these?

Check this out! Every time I hand someone a catalog while I’m out and about, or my server, or cashier, or bank teller, or anyone…I tell them to fill out the enter my drawing slip and TEXT me a picture of it when they get it filled out and I’ll mail them a free gift (usually a key fob).

Well….now they’re on sticky notes and I can simply have them stuck on the front of the catalog when I hand it to them. SO easy to make getting THEIR information easy on me! And daggonit it’s CUTE!!

**And it helps YOU to remember to ASK them for their information!

Want your own design for the sticky pads and drawing slips? Kim from Night Owl Custom Design on Facebook made the design for me. SUPER cheap!

https://nightowlcustomdesign.ecwid.com/#!/Sticky-Notes-FREE-GIFT/p/54159473

Want to know if it works?

I handed this to a lady that worked at my dentist office. And guess who text me this picture and asked if I would send her Grandma a catalog too? And guess who’s thinking about enrolling as a consultant?

This business is NOT hard. All you have to do is make sure you’re talking about it to EVERYONE you come into contact with. And…always be changing your seats. Eat at a new restaurant. Sit next to someone you don’t know at your son’s basketball game. Go to a different branch of your bank. Whatever it is…THINK…how can I meet someone new today. Heck, I handed a lady in front of me a catalog at the post office today! Anyone can do this, you simply have to be WILLING to do it!

Tip for your Thirty-One Business

Image Posted on Updated on

This is absolute 100% standard practice now. If someone asks me for a catalog, they’re getting a hostess packet and a note that says:

I added some order forms and the hostess and customer specials for you, just in case you collected a few orders.
It only takes $200 to make a party order!
You never know…you might get yours for FREE 🙂

WHY would I do that? I already know they want to order. If they were going to order $50-$100 anyway, what’s a couple more orders to make it a party? PLANTING SEEDS!!

THAT is working outside the box!!!

Thirty-One Give Back. Small Business Making a Big Impact With Charity Work

Posted on Updated on

Learn how I am using my Thirty-One Direct Sales business to do something great for my community.

Direct Sales isn’t just a business. It’s a life style. And you can use your business to make an impact in people’s lives, in your community, and around the country. See just one way that our team is using our Thirty-One business to create a wave of giving back across the country.

This month, we’re focusing on our local Children’s Services. Many of these children have nothing but the clothes on their backs when they’re picked up for placement into a home. My mission is to spread a wave of donations all over the country to local Children Services locations. So if you would like to join us on our mission, here are some details below:

STEP 1:

Here is a video I made for my team explaining the donations:

STEP 2:

You are going to use this EXACT post below (with the picture attached, I have one for our local ladies and a blank one for everyone else to edit), to post on your main Facebook page and your customer groups. You can also email this to your customer base and friends. I got quite a few sponsored that way! Please note, you cannot alter this post in any way other than location or “cause”.  You cannot mention 31 or add a link to your website!

Alright friends and family! I have something really great that I’m working on! I want to sponsor 31 comfort bags to Butler County Children’s Services next month. And I need your help! One of my many goals this year is to GIVE BACK. And this is our next endeavor!

Each and every bag will be given to a child when they are picked up by Butler County Children’s Services for placement into a home. We’ve have permission to team up with them to give these children, who often leave with just the clothes on their back, something to take their minds off the current situation; even if just for a moment. Your $20 donation will provide a thermal tote that will be filled with items for them! I know we can pull this off together and bless some children during a time when they could sure use a blessing!

Here is how it works: You can sponsor as many bags as you would like for $20 each. I will use ALL of my commission that is made on the bags to fill them with things like tooth-brush/tooth paste, fuzzy socks, small blankets, travel games, tissues, journal and pen, coloring books and crayons, etc. If you would like to sponsor a bag, you can comment below with “I want to sponsor ___ bags!” I will follow up with you via private message!

I also have a digital order form you can print and collect donations on your own! You can collect orders at your work, your church, your friends and family…anything you want!

#BetterTogether

BCCS-personal

STEP 3:

Here is a letter you can hand to local business owners when asking for donations. You can ask for donations of items to go in the bag, as well as donations to sponsor a bag. If you would like a copy of this file, you can visit the Melissa’s Shared Files tab on this page:

Donation letter to business-BCCS-jpg

STEP 4:

Bridgett Edwards and I, also created an order form for this event. I want to encourage my friends, family, and customers to HELP on my mission. So they can print this form and collect donations from their work. Again, this file is available under Melissa’s Shared Files tab at the top of this page:

order form-personal

STEP 5:

When someone says they will sponsor a bag, you can send a simple message like this:

Hi Beth!!

Thank you so much for being a part of the Butler County comfort bag sponsorship for 2015!!

You can pay the $20 per bag via credit card or mail me a personal check. If you are writing a personal check, write it out to me and mail to: 517 Gorham Drive, Hamilton, OH 45013

I plan to submit the order by July 10th! Thanks again! I really appreciate it!! You have no idea how much this means to me!!

If you would like to see if anyone at your work or friends/family wants to donate too, you can print this form and collect some more if you’d like: ((give link to file))

So thankful!! Melissa

This truly is about using your Direct Sales business to:

1. Make an impact in your community:

~Why not? Why not use your business to do something good and help others around you. There is nothing more rewarding than charity work. The feeling you get from helping the less fortunate is a force to be reckoned with. It just feels GOOD.

2. Get your name out in the community:

~While you’re doing all of this, you’re building relationships. You could always sit on the couch watching re-runs of Days of Our Lives, OR…you could get out in the community, meet some new groups of people, build relationships, and light a fire in your business!

3. Involve others:

~We are better together. My friend Beth Payne has printed the flier and collected 11 orders in less than a week from her co-workers. That is what I’m talking about when I say…give people a chance. If you don’t ask them, you’ll never know. Most people would LOVE to do charity work. But they don’t know HOW! When YOU become the vessel for others around you to give back…you will see CRYSTAL CLEAR that one person really can change the world. It’s a domino effect. And YOU are the catalyst.

4. Represent your company:

~Show others what your company is about. That this is FUN. That we make our own rules. And even more, we love to test limits. This can be a huge booking and recruiting tool for your own business, if you shine your light so bright they can’t help but SEE you. They will see your work and the environment you are creating in your direct sales business, and they’ll want to be a part of it.

I hope this helps spark some ideas in your own company. You don’t have to be with Thirty-One. You could be with Mary Kay, Posh, Scentsy…it doesn’t matter. Take this idea and spin something for your own direct sales company. Together we really can make a difference!

Like Hulk. It’s ugly.

1-1

What I want to talk to you about today, is what really razzes me! WHY? Because I want you to NOT do it! So here are some Do’s and Don’ts that you should really consider while posting to Facebook:

My personal Facebook timeline: What you can NOT do:

This is a page for my family and friends. Period. I am friends with 3,000 people I do not know. Because they’re consultants, they like my ideas, and I freely share. Anything you see on my page, you don’t even have to ask. It’s yours for the taking.

BUT…and this is a BIG BUTT…

DO NOT:

1. Post something on my timeline that is a business question:

Why?: because my personal timeline is not for business. It is for me to make connections with my family, my customers, and my friends. I have to have a personal boundary in this world. I don’t mind you seeing my page and then privately messaging me a question, but do NOT post a question on my timeline about business.

2. Do not send me a private message and then post on my timeline “Hey, I sent you a message, you must have missed it”.

WHY?: Because I can assure you I saw it, but I didn’t have time to answer it, and I will BLOCK you. I freely answer questions from HUNDREDS of consultants. And love to, as a matter of fact! But I do have strict rules on my daily schedule, which is why I am successful.

My rules:

***If you are not on my team, you are not a friend, a family member, or a customer, your question will be answered when all of MY work is done. That could be 20 minutes, or that could be 2 weeks.

But I have to, again, have boundaries for my own personal life. My family comes first. I have 5 children who demand A LOT of time. I have 3 teenagers and a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old. I have a babysitter from 9am-1pm. That’s all I get to work. And I cannot stop what I’m doing for myself, my hostesses, my family, or my team, to answer questions from someone I don’t even know. It is not a smart business decision or even a smart personal decision. So please understand that I really do care, but I am not Superwoman. I can only do so much work in 4 hours.

3. Do not comment on a post that is on my personal timeline and say “I’m stealing this”, “where did you buy those from”, “I tried that and it didn’t work”, “can i borrow this?”, or ANY OTHER business question.

WHY?: Because I realize YOU see me as a person to learn from, a leader in Thirty-One, and someone to get good ideas from. But you’re on my PERSONAL page. You are taking PERSONAL posts to my friends/family/customers and staining it with business. It’s like you just put Facebook PORN on my page! That’s how much it makes me cringe. LOL! This is my best mom face saying…”Don’t. You. Do. It.”

1

It is extremely unprofessional. Now, feel free to privately message me…but please do not comment business on my personal page.

I love to teach. I love to help. But I find that people need some training on how to appropriately LEARN too.

What you CAN do on someone’s personal Facebook timeline:

Thanks for letting me rant and for respecting my personal boundaries. I share because I care about every single person out there. But sometimes I get burned for it. So I just wanted to throw that out there. There’s a right way, and a wrong way. Make sure you’re doing things the RIGHT way!

Change With Facebook Events for Direct Sales Consultants

Posted on Updated on

Oh.

My.

Gosh.

I get excited very easily. But DID YOU KNOW that Facebook changed their policy on Facebook EVENTS?

I only do private events for my hostesses. And before…GUESTS could not add people to a private event. But they CAN now!

Why is this so exciting??

Because this increases my lead pool and lead generation for every single Thirty-One Facebook party that I do!

You have to treat every single Facebook party, just like you would a home show. Your job is to:

1. create booking seeds

2. get your information in front of as many people as you can

3. leave with SOLID follow up information with as many people as you can

4. celebrate your hostess

5. do give a ways

6. create recruiting seeds

7. get referrals

8. show product usage

9. and HAVE FUN!

I created this image to get my hostesses GUESTS to invite THEIR friends to the P A R T Y 🙂 Go ahead, you can thank me 🙂 Now go post this on all your hostesses Facebook events!!!

And do a happy dance like I did when I figured it out 😉 Enjoy this image:

Melissa has entered the world of sharing files on her blog!

Posted on Updated on

So, I have entered the Twilight Zone. This old lady has figured out how to put FILES on my blog! So it’s your lucky day!

There is a new tab called Melissa’s shared documents. Anytime I add a file, I will post it there also.

1

I’m so excited to be able to share files with you ladies now. One Drive is how I’m doing it. I can make a folder public, get a link for the file I uploaded, and share that document via One Drive. This may be really old news to some of you savvy ladies out there, but MAN did it rock my world when I figured this out on accident!

So anyways, I am sharing my Enter My Drawing slips for everyone. These are not able to be edited because they’re actually a jpg file I made in picmonkey.com . I use these  bad boys in EVERYTHING I do. I’ll be making a video on recruiting soon (and how I use these as a recruiting tool), but for now…here’s a file for me to SHARE. WOOHOO! 🙂

ENTER MY DRAWING SLIPS: http://1drv.ms/1D56ahY

And some notes on One Drive…when you share a link for the file, they can view the file and download the file, but they cannot alter yours. Good stuff right there folks 🙂

You can check out more information on One Drive at: www.onedrive.com
